Back to basics: 5 essential tips to a perfect burger.

Burgers are a staple of American cuisine and a favorite of many. However, making the perfect burger can be a challenge. On the surface, what could be simpler to cook than a hamburger? But we’ve all eaten enough bad burgers to know much can go wrong.

Here are five essential tips to help you create the perfect burger:

1. Choose the right meat

The first step to making a great burger is choosing the right meat. Look for freshly ground meat that is 80-85% meat and 15-20% fat. Flavorful cuts include chuck, sirloin, boneless short ribs, or brisket. If possible, grind the meat yourself or have your butcher do it for you.

2. Make the patties

Once you have your meat, it’s time to make the patties. Use a food scale to ensure that your patties are uniform in size. We recommend patties that are around 150/200 grams. Thoroughly chill the meat before handling, wet your hands with cold water, and handle the meat as little as possible to avoid melting the fat. Dimple the patty using your thumbs or the back of a spoon to prevent the meat from puffing on the grill.

3. Season the meat

Season the meat with salt and pepper just before grilling. Avoid adding other ingredients to the meat, as this can detract from the flavor of the meat itself.

4. Grill the burgers

Make sure your ZELUX has reached a high temperature. Grill the burgers for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, 4-5 minutes per side for medium, and 5-6 minutes per side for well-done. Avoid pressing down on the burgers with a spatula, as this can cause the juices to escape.

5. Toast the buns

Finally, toast the buns on the grill for 30 seconds to a minute. This will give your burger a nice crunch and prevent the bun from getting soggy.

By following these five essential tips, you’ll be able to create the perfect burger every time. Happy grilling!
